Kate Watt

Since her son’s diagnosis in 2012, Kate has dedicated herself to understanding dyslexia, structured literacy and effective instructional practices. She quickly recognised that despite holding a teaching degree, her formal education did not equip her with the necessary knowledge to teach literacy to all students successfully. Determined to bridge this gap, she pursued extensive professional training and is now a Certified Yoshimoto Trainer in Basic Literacy, Advanced Morphology, and Maths and an Associate of Orton-Gillingham Academy.

In her role as a trainer, Kate has worked with hundreds of teachers across multiple states in Australia, equipping them with the knowledge and strategies needed to support students with dyslexia and other learning differences. Her expertise in structured literacy and evidence-based interventions has helped countless educators transform their approach to teaching, ensuring that more students receive the support they need from the outset.

For Kate, raising awareness about dyslexia extends beyond her personal experience—it represents a broader call for reform in literacy education. Every child deserves equitable access to effective instruction, ensuring that they can thrive rather than merely cope within the education system.

Through her work, Kate continues to champion best practices in literacy education, ensuring that teachers are empowered with the tools and knowledge they need to make a lasting difference. She strongly believes that advocating for evidence-based practices and prioritizing early intervention, meaningful progress can be achieved in ensuring that all children—regardless of their learning profiles—receive the support they need to reach their full potential.
